Note when I respond to mailings, I always send a copy to both the
original poster and to the list (if it seems appropriate to send to
the list). This should be standard procedure for people on the list
that respond to mail on the list. Otherwise you have to know that the
person is on the list and will get the posting, if you post it to the
list only.
It is entirely possible and reasonable that people will post to lists
when they are not on the list, so you can't just assume that they will
see any response posted to the list.
